Today’s beauty blog post is an exciting one, it’s in collaboration with my good friend & amazing makeup artist, Laurena aka business owner for Love By Laur! I wanted to bring you my favorite foundations, but it would only fit my demographic, oily skin, & I wanted to bring you favorites to accommodate the opposite spectrum as well, for dry skin. I thought to myself, Laurena is the perfect expert on dry/sensitive skin, as well as an amazing & educated makeup artist, so it was a perfect fit for a collab! So here are our top pick’s in the primer & foundation realm for oily to combo & dry to sensitive skin!
Fenty Beauty, Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Primer
The ultimate super mattifying long wear foundation primer! Rihanna came out with an amazing matte & long wearing foundation primer, thats affordably priced, & I find that a little goes a long way with this primer. It’s got a lotion like formula that dries down to a matte base & finish. I high recommend making sure you work this really well into the skin & all over the face, to look absolutely powerless & primed for a flawless foundation finish.
Charlotte Tilbury, Wonder Glow Primer
One of my ride or die foundations, it has a soft instant beauty focus, which means it radiates light inward to outward aka you’re going to look like a glowy golden goddess. Who said you can’t be matte & still glow?! I love this primer under various foundations! It play’s well with not only my high end foundation brands but even my drug store. I’ve noticed a longer wear since using this primer & my skin look’s absolutely healthy & radiant in photography. It also has great skin care benefits like hylaronic acid which will minimize your pores over time, firm the skin, & hydrate (hydration is still so important as an oily skin type!) your skin.
Guerlain, Meteorites Base Perfecting Pearls
My favorite boujie high end primer, not only is it pretty to look at, & nicely fragranted, a little of this primer goes a long way! Its definitely not affordably priced but if you don’t mind spending a little extra coin to have a long wearing matte finish, I reccomend this primer! The best part is it plays well with all brands, from high end, to drug store.
L’Oreal Infaillabe Pro Matte Foundation
My literal go to foundation, L’Oreal has a life long customer in me, as long as they’ve got this foundation. Not only is it extremely affordable compared to high end or luxury branded foundations, but it’s got the quality of some of my favorite high end foundations. It gives me all day wear with minimal touch up time. Depending on your application of the product you can sheer it out for a natural finish or you can build it to a medium to full coverage. It’s just one of those bomb ass foundations for oily skin that I have nothing bad to say about!
DiorSkin Forever Foundation
A little on the pricer end, the DiorSkin Forever Foundation is the high end version of Pro Matte, it’s just a little less matte though, more of a demo-matte finish. The coverage is a beautiful medium to full, it gives great all day wear, has a good amount of SPF, doesn’t give crazy flash back, & comes in a wide variety of shades.
Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation
Another high end favorite foundation, it’s a demi-matte finish, that has mushroom abstract to help fight acne, & super charged vitamin C so while it’s a matte finish it’s still giving your skin the hydration it needs! It’s Charlotte’s award winning & best selling foundation. It’s a beautiful medium to full coverage.
Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation
The ultimate foundation fix for the oiliest girl on the planet, this foundation is almost equivalent (in my opinion) to makeup cement. What?! Yes, it dries down SO quick on the face, so you have to be quick with applying this foundation, but once it dries down, it stays in place, doesn’t settle in lines, & wear’s ALL day. This is my idea of the perfect special occasion foundation for an oily skin type who has a jam packed day or an all day event that you simply don’t have the time to touch up for. If you find this foundation is a little too ‘cement’ like, for your liking, I highly recommend adding a drop of beauty oil to it or moisturizing the skin just a little extra before application.
Laura Mercier Hydrating Primer
I’ve gone through a ridiculous amount of Laura Mercier’s Hydrating Primer! Not only does it extend the wear of your makeup, but this water-based gel primer hydrates and plumps the skin so beautifully! It sounds dramatic, but when you have dry skin, a good hydrating primer makes all the difference in how the foundation sits on your skin! This is my holy grail.
Too Faced Hangover Rx Replenishing Face Primer
This is another primer that does a good job at hydrating the skin with coconut water infused within it, but it also has probiotic-based ingredients and skin revivers. I definitely recommend still using a moisturizer under this primer if you have dehydrated skin. However, if you’re on the oily/combination side, I know of women who use this as their moisturizer and primer!
Make Up For Ever Step 1 Skin Equalizer Hydrating Primer
I’m so ashamed to say, but I’ve slept on this primer! Make Up For Ever has a good selection of primers, but if you have dry skin, or just love that extra hydration, this primer will definitely get the job done. This primer really helps to glide over dry patches and makes sure the foundation on top of it doesn’t accentuate the texture.
NARS Sheer Glow Foundation
This foundation has been one of my favorites since high school! The way it makes my skin look so healthy and smooth keeps me coming back. It gives light to medium coverage and is definitely buildable. This foundation looks best blended into the skin with either your fingers or a damp beauty sponge. This foundation gives your skin a beautiful, healthy glow.
Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Foundation
This is the current foundation in my makeup kit that I use on clients with normal to dry skin. I would say this foundation gives a light to medium coverage as well. It’s buildage, but it won’t give you a complete full coverage look. This one is absolutely gorgeous for photo/videography. It makes the skin look very natural and healthy both on camera and in person.
Laura Mercier Candleglow Soft Luminous Foundation
I went through a phase where I wore this foundation every single day for months on end. It’s a light coverage foundation, but it makes your skin look like you’re not wearing any foundation at all! I always got a lot of compliments on my skin when I wore this foundation. This foundation was inspired by the look of skin in candlelight- very soft and luminous. That’s exactly how it makes your skin look.
L’Oreal Paris Infallible Pro-Glow
L’Oreal’s Pro-Glow foundation is a drug store buy that performs like a high end foundation. The medium coverage partnered with the stunning dewy glow to the skin is jaw dropping! It claims to have 24 hour wear, and although I don’t strongly agree with 24 hours, it is still a decently long wearing foundation considering both it’s dewy-ness and it being drug store. This foundation has SPF 15, but I haven’t dealt with any flash back issues so far!
